1) General river circulation pattern from 06.00hrs on Monday 14^th June onwards, except during the regatta.

Always check local conditions before boating.

From 06.00 Monday 14^th June 2010 the normal river circulation pattern formally changes in accordance with the Environment Agency Notice.

Please note that red buoys and Warm-up area inner Circulation buoys may not be in place until Wed 16^th June.

All Competitors must follow the Blue dotted / slashed arrows as shown on the accompanying diagram

Competitors boating from the HWR raft or Upper Thames Rowing Club.
Remain on the bank side of the booms until the crossing marshal is reached.
Look to see if any boats are coming down the course, if they are safe distance away, cross through the offset barriers at an diagonal angle (due to the stream). Caution must be taken when the booms are under construction.
Boats must go through both sets of booms and immediately turn to their starboard side inside the line of red buoys. Remain inside the buoys going up past Temple Island leaving the navigation channel free for other river users.
If boating from Henley Rowing Club go up the outside of the booms until the red buoys and then go inside them as follows.
Crews must remain inside the red buoys keeping them closely to the boats port side.
On reaching the end of the line of buoys crews will turn to the starboard side so that their post side in now in line with the bank. This is in a rotation pattern around the inner circulation buoys.
Check before boating that the inner circulation buoys have been installed so that the circulation pattern is as shown
Care should be taken as there may be a floating pontoon attached to the bank on the Berkshire side, this may be used for running repairs with the approval of a marshal.
Crews should go passed the starting pontoons and then proceed along the course.
Crews may turn to the Berkshire bank at the break in the booms just passed the HWR finish and then row back to the HWR rafts between the booms and the bank
During the general river circulation pattern, crews may go through to the end of the Henley Royal Regatta course, then pass through the bridge or may turn to starboard.
Do not stop on any of the HRR rafts.
Crews may go back towards the HWR rafts crossing through both sets of booms again or back towards the start for a second run over the course.

At no point should any crew go beyond the end of the line of buoys beyond the start.
Always remain vigilant to other river users, rowing boats, launches, or cruisers.

2) Circulation patterns and Marshalling Instructions for HWR 2010

There will be Safety boats on the river 40 minutes before racing starts and for 30 minutes after racing finishes.

A) Time Trails (see circulation diagram Henley Reach Navigation Time Trials for competitors)

Competitors boating from the HWR raft or leaving the rafts having had their control commission checks.
Remain on the bank side of the booms until the crossing marshal is reached.
The marshal will direct then crossing through the racing lane and boats must go through both sets of booms and immediately turn to their starboard side inside the line of red buoys.
Remain inside the buoys going up past Temple Island leaving the navigation channel free for other river users.
Crews must remain inside the red buoys keeping them closely to the boats port side.
On reaching the end of the line of buoys crews will turn to the starboard side so that their post side in now in line with the bank. This is in a rotation pattern around the inner circulation buoys.
Care should be taken as there may be a floating pontoon attached to the bank on the Berkshire side, this may be used for running repairs with the approval of a marshal.

Crews will marshal in ascending order with the lowest number nearest the start. Numbers should be visible.
Crews will be directed by marshals up to the start pontoons and started by the Umpire on the pontoons as they pass.
Timing does not start until half way down Temple Island and there will be a timing team stationed on the Berkshire bank at that point.
On finishing the races all crews will turn to the Berkshire bank at the break in the booms just passed the finish. Row back to the HWR rafts between the booms and the bank.

B) Racing (see circulation diagram Henley Reach Navigation regatta)

Competitors boating from the HWR raft or leaving the rafts having had their control commission checks.
Remain on the bank side of the booms until the crossing marshal is reached.
The marshal will direct then crossing through the racing lane and boats must go through both sets of booms and immediately turn to their starboard side inside the line of red buoys.
Remain inside the buoys going up past Temple Island leaving the navigation channel free for other river users.

Having passed Temple Island crews may either:

i) Turn directly onto the start if it is within a couple of minutes before their race starting or

ii) may continue along the river remaining inside the red buoys keeping them closely to the boats port side
On reaching the end of the line of buoys crews will turn to the starboard side so that their post side in now in line with the bank. This is in a rotation pattern around the inner circulation buoys
Crews may continue to go in this circular rotation whilst warming up.
Care should be taken as there may be a floating pontoon attached to the bank on the Berkshire side, this may be used for running repairs with the approval of a marshal.
Crews will line up with their opponents 5 minutes before race time with the first named crew in each race on the Berkshire (regatta) station.

All competitors must be in the start area at least 5 minutes before the advertised time of their race and be attached to the stake boat 2 minutes before their race.

On finishing the races all crews will turn to the Berkshire bank at the break in the booms just passed the finish. Row back to the HWR incoming rafts between the booms and the bank.
