Statement on 2021 Regatta

We hope that you are all really very well and coping with the difficult year of 2020 on a personal level, as a family and in your communities – wherever they are in this world or the next.

It is over a year now that the Thames in Henley has had any racing. Both Brexit and fast stream have resulted in all events being cancelled this year. So for all rowers, race officials, our partners and event volunteers we are doing our utmost to stage Henley Women’s Regatta in 2021.

Planning has already started and we are publishing the HWR rules for 2021 on Wednesday 16th December in anticipation of an exciting regatta next summer. There are many challenges that we all face, rising costs and A level and GCSEs running later than usual into July. We are expecting to have to implement a rise in competitor entry fees, due to an increase in costs and additional infrastructure that we may need to arrange to ensure social distancing. We are already budgeting hard to minimise this.

The later exams also mean that Juniors will need to plan ahead, study and revise early so that you can race at your best at HWR and excel in your exams.

We look forward to getting back to racing and seeing you all on the 18th, 19th and 20th of June.

Stay well and stay safe!

Miriam Luke and all at HWR
