Training on the course
You can train on the course on the days before the regatta starts and outside the hours of racing during the regatta. All crews must be off the water 45 minutes before the start of side-by-side racing or 15 minutes before the advertised boating time for time trials. Crews may only boat 15 minutes after start time of the last race of the day.
Please note that as the site will be under construction from Monday, 16 June 2025, for safety reasons, access to landing stages will not be available until approximately 17:00 on Wednesday, 18 June 2025. If you wish to train on the course before this you will need to make separate arrangements to do this with one the local rowing clubs:
Safety and welfare
The weather is going to be VERY HOT for HWR 2025 with forecast temperatures over 30°C/86°F. This page sets out how competitors can use facilities available at the regatta to keep as cool as possible.
Stay hydrated
Drinking water standpipes are located throughout the HWR site – in the car and trailer park, in the Spectator Zone, and in the Competior Zone. The locations of the water taps in the Competitor Zone are shown as blue drops on the map below.
‘Slip, slap, slop’
This well-known Australian phrase sensibly advises everyone to:
- Slip on a shirt
- Slap on a hat
- Slop on the suncream.
Stay out of the sun between races
Competitors can find shade:
- In the large shelter behind Registration in the Competotor Zone (new for this year)
- Under the trees in the Competotitor Zone
- Under your own gazebo:
- We have added extra prime location gazebo pitches to the Spectator Zone (booking required >>)
- Additional gazebos can be pitched right at the back of Temple Island Meadows (no booking or pitch fee) where they will be safely clear of trailer traffic – see map below.
Please do NOT erect gazebos in the car park or trailer parking area.
Travel and parking
Everyone involved with HWR (including competitors, coaches, trailer drivers and support) must observe the traffic circulation plan and must NOT park in local lanes during the regatta.
Please book e-tickets for HWR parking in advance.
Compliance with parking requirements is a condition of entry.
Competitor FAQs
Yes, because the regatta takes place on waters managed by the Environment Agency.
Overseas crews renting boats should check with the club or supplier regarding its boat identification stickers and EA registration, both of which are specific to the boat not the crew.
The HWR entry fee does not cover the EA licence – this is something crews have to obtain independently.
You can find relevant information here. UK Anti-Doping may attend HWR, and it is for the athlete to ensure they comply.
